New Parent Support Program:

Provides supportive services and parenting skills to expectant, new, veteran and single parents. Courses available from the program include infant CPR, baby sign language, play groups and breastfeeding support. Classes are held throughout the year.

Classes:

BABY SIGN LANGUAGE
Class for parents of babies 8 months and older.  Learn natural baby sign language that allows babies and parents to use simple signs to communicate important things like being hungry or thirsty, hot or cold, afraid or sad.  Easy to use sign language books provided to each family.  Parent Only Class. CPR FOR PARENTS

DADS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Activities designed to educate, strengthen and support fathers, especially new fathers.  Designed to help fathers become more involved with their children right from the beginning.  Children are healthier, happier and more resilient when their fathers are actively involved in their lives.  Promotes enriched lives and is a deterrent to child abuse. DADDY BOOT CAMP
 A parenting class for expectant and new fathers to learn the basics in preparing and caring for a newborn infant.  To include topics such as diapering, bathing, feeding and safety tips.  For more information, please call (913) 684-2800.

GREEN PARENTING PLAYGROUP

A playgroup/support group for parents, created by parents, looking for information and support through the adventure of raising their children with a holistic and natural approach to include, but not limited to cloth diapering, making baby foods, breastfeeding, home birthing, baby wearing, and more. Children welcome!

HEALTHY MOM/HEALTHY BABY
Class provides new moms or expectant moms with valuable information about maintaining a healthy lifestyle including exercise, proper nutrition and rest, things to avoid during your pregnancy and other valuable resources available on-post and in the surrounding community.  To discuss what occurs during prenatal visits and what various pregnancy tests mean.  Sign up as soon as pregnant for support through the early physical and emotional changes.  Registration required. INFANT CARE & PARENTING
Class designed to provide parents with an understanding of their infant's world along with basic skills necessary to care for the infant.  Classes provide an opportunity for "hands-on" practice to assist parents in making informed, responsible decisions about all aspects of caring for their child during those first formative years.  Registration required. INFANT MASSAGE
A hands-on experience teaching, demonstrating and practicing basic nurturing skills of infant massage.  Designed to give parents the skills to help ease stress, increase special alone and bonding time with their baby and provide a positive way for any parent to interact with their infant.  Bring a soft blanket and the baby. PARENTING WITH LOVE AND LOGIC
 An approach that reduces conflict and increases harmony with children of all ages.  The course teaches techniques to help parents guide children to grow in their own decision-making ability while reducing arguments.  Geared toward parents although teachers and anyone wanting to improve communication within any kind of organization can also benefit from the class. PLAY GROUP
An interactive playgroup to assist parents in learning developmentally appropriate play techniques and to help children improve their social, cognitive and motor skills.  Structured activities include singing, dancing, story time, craft project and free play time.
