Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP):

The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is a mandatory enrollment program that works with other military and civilian agencies to provide comprehensive and coordinated community support, housing, educational, medical and personnel services to Families with special needs. An EFM is a Family member (child or adult) with any physical, emotional, developmental or intellectual disorder that requires special treatment, therapy, education, training or counseling. Soldiers are required to update their EFMP every three years, if not sooner.

EFMP offers advocacy assistance, systems navigation, respite care (for those who meet eligibility criteria), recreational activities, summer camp, holiday celebrations, and Family Find activities. EFMP can provide help for families with special education issues, including assessments, evaluations, education related diagnoses, Individual Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Accommodations and Early Intervention Services. EFMP also provides educational workshops, focus groups, support groups, quarterly EFMP Town Hall Meetings, and quarterly EFMP Coordinating Council Meetings (Parent representatives are welcome). In-addition, EFMP provides Housing and Community Needs Assessments and relocation/transitioning support for continuity of care.

The Installation EFMP works closely with MEDDAC / EFMP at Munson Army Health Center (MAHC) to support enrollment of Exceptional Family Members, to update enrollments and to support Soldiers and their Families in preparation for overseas movement (OCONUS Screenings).

The Installation EFMP works closely with the Fort Leavenworth Fire Department and their “Caring and Sharing Program”, to assist Military Families with special needs. The Fire Fighters provide in-home visits, on a non-emergency basis to familiarize Families living on the installation with their department / team members. They can provide wellness checks, assist during extreme weather, power outages (provide generators), deployment rotations and amber alerts. This is a voluntary service, free of charge and part of the Fire Department’s way of giving back to our Family members and the community.

Special Olympics Young Athletes Program

The Special Olympics Young Athletes Program will be meeting Saturday, Jun. 2. We will be focusing on soccer skill stations. Meet us at the soccer field on Hancock, just inside the back gate. We will start stretching at 10 a.m. and finish up by 11:30. We will have water available but please bring your own bottle. Don’t forget your siblings-they are welcome to participate as well. Camp SOAR:

CAMP SOAR will take place June 5, 6, 7 at Hunt Lodge. Camp Soar is open to all military children enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program. The camp counselors provide a variety of planned activities to keep the camper engaged and also provide flexibility in alternative activities to accommodate the needs of the individual child. Camp activities will include horseback riding, music, arts & crafts, outdoor sports, human animal bond, fire truck tour, and much, much more. Each child will be assigned a camp buddy and a registered nurse will be on duty throughout the day. Parents must provide transportation to and from Hunt Lodge as well as a bag lunch, snacks and a water bottle each day. The deadline for registration is 1 June.
